So, you wish to get to San Diego.

So, you wish to visit San Diego and see a 'whale' of show at Sea World?  Or would you rather visit Balboa Park and visit the recently born Panda? Good Luck!
Before you get into your gas guzzling car, go back into your abode and listen to one who has tried to car it to San Diego. Five bad events occur when driving to San Diego, the most beautiful city in the United States.
To weather the storm called driving, why not take Metro-Link or Amtrak?  Metro-Link is cheap and you can link up with it at any one of thirteen commuter stations on the way south from Los Angeles. I have visited my daughter and returned for only ten dollars. (And as of today, the seventh of October, both trains will share stations and tickets. As long as you stop in Oceanside, you can cut down on travel expense.)
From Friday night till Sunday, ten bucks is all you need. And what scenery. While the train past Anaheim I almost caught a baseball hit by an Angel. Their weekend rate is ten dollars for the entire week. You can eat, drink or sleep you way into the city.
Or just maybe  you have a large family, and you need a large car to drive into San Diego. You can park it in Oceanside, and take the afternoon Coaster into the city. There is no charge for parking in anyone of the commuter parking area. Drinking is allowed on the train.  From there a bus or trolley can get you to your designated hotel.
The 5 Freeway goes all the way to downtown San Diego. It connects to the 805 just after Del Mar, but bear right. I have witnessed to many accidents scenes at the interchange where the 5 crosses the 805. (Last night driving in, a posted sign warned me of an accident. 'Slow down, accident ahead.')
While the 5 and 805 are untangling traffic, get ready to exit at the Sea World off ramp. You will be only too happy to garage your car at the Old Town Station. It come after Mission Bay. Again bear to the right and the first light is Pacific. At the white arrow, turn left until you see Perry's eatery.
Your destination is Sea World. You've robbed a piggy bank to afford this coveted attraction. Walk to the west side bus station and buy a seven dollar one day pass. Take the bus for Sea World. They run at fifteen minute intervals.
Just a word of warning. Try to park it at any commuter parking lot. The rush hour traffic leaving San Diego in the afternoon can give you fits. Also, Saturday is a bad day to freeway it. You can lose weight and see quite a sight by walking, taking a train or bus.
It is a good idea to arrive at Old Town before seven. You need to get a good value for dollar. When you return to Old Town, put the dirty diapers or souvenirs in your trunk and remove only what you need for you hotel stay.
The Green line Trolley accepts your one day seven dollar pass. A slight tap on a yellow machine bumps the ticket for another ride. The Green Line south can drop you off at any one of these hotels: the Hyatt , Embassy, Hilton, Marriott, Omni or other hotels.
You can ride the number 2, 7, 902 buses to get to other off Broadway hotels  like the Grant, or Courtyard Marriott.
